As a precursor, we thought it would be fun (and easier on those of us with day jobs) to include some short, pithy posts. We hope these often-humorous Dylan Shorts and Jolee Minis will provide some further insight into the creative, intelligent, and unique minds of our kids. With that said, here is the first installment.
On our way to the Farmer’s Market one Saturday morning, Dylan was giggling up a storm in the backseat. He is generally a happy dude, but this was a bit unique. I thought I heard him mention Friday Night Trucking, so we naturally asked him what that was. He emphasized that it was actually Friday Night Funkin and he was laughing because it sounded like he was swearing when he said funkin’. We laughed along and found pure enjoyment in his newfound level of humor. Dylan never uses swear words, but since then he now finds it funny to also use other non-swear words including the term “a-whole”. I guess at 23, there are worse things he could be saying…

If you are like me, you may have never heard of Friday Night Funkin. I looked it up and got a quick recap from my son. In summary, it is an on-line rhythm game that mainly revolves around the player character, Boyfriend, who must defeat a variety of characters in singing and rapping. Gameplay revolves around hitting notes with timed inputs while avoiding running out of health for the duration of the song. The player must pass multiple levels, referred to as “weeks” in-game, containing three songs each.
I have not played and am not recommending the game, but feel free to check it out at https://funkin.me/
